Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher who lived in ancient India over 2,500 years ago. He is the founder of Buddhism, one of the major world religions. according to traditional accounts, Siddhartha Gautama was born into a royal family in present-day Nepal. He lived a life of luxury and privilege, shielded from the suffering and hardships of the world. However, as he grew older, he became increasingly aware of the realities of human suffering and the impermanence of life. At the age of 29, Siddhartha Gautama renounced his privileged life and set out on a spiritual quest for enlightenment. He spent six years practicing various ascetic disciplines and meditation techniques, but ultimately found them unsatisfactory. He then sat under a Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, and vowed to remain there until he had found the truth.
